Informal Groups: Do They Lead to Organizational Issues?
As we all know, since groups form the foundation of larger organizations, they are essential to understanding organizational behavior in the workplace (Daniel, 2018). In order to interact with one another, informal groups are developed on the spot. It does not originate from the organization's administration but rather aids in meeting their demands for social interaction and attachment.
Even while informal groups do not influence organizational management decisions, they have a significant impact on that process. Additionally, unofficial groups focus on organizational issues.
The informal group's unfavorable attitudes contribute to problems within the organization. Employees that are followers always go along with their leaders' orders, which goes against the organizations' policies. As a result, the heads of those informal teams will cause difficulties and serve as a point of contention between the management and the employees.
Additionally, there is a propensity for resistance to change in informal groups. Because change necessitates a change in the abilities, attitudes, and behaviors of the workforce. But they must preserve their traditional traits rather than adopt new ones. As a result, informal groups can act violently in certain circumstances and hinder the organization's ability to expand and survive.
Additionally, conformity is a problem brought on by the informal group. The unofficial group puts a lot of pressure on its members to fit in. By adhering to the group rules, members demonstrate their loyalty. Therefore, it is challenging for organizations to manage the attitudes and behaviors of their employees.
Within the organization, rumors are crucial in misleading the public. They come from an informal group and are frequently used. It happened as a result of the employees' uncertainty and fear. Because of this, victims may feel anxious, upset, or like leaving the groups.
As a result, informal groups serve as guides for organizational issues and have an impact on the productivity, expansion, and survival of the company.
